Someone looking for Hélène Fichter? Update envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 04/03/2010 @ 07:51
That is the code name I was given on my "profession de foie" by someone at the club. However, Hélène does exist. She is my mother...81 years old and has never been a member of the club. My name after 10 years as member of the club, is still Elaine.

Bliss: Coccolina's pups envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 03/03/2010 @ 09:29
Yes, the pups are all doing very well. Yesterday, their noses were going in all directions as I let each one smell outside the window. It was such a lovely day! Guy Guy was in to clean their noses and ears and things as usual, have fallen into place. So nice, it just goes too fast.
The adults have gotten used to all the pups and I think they know their status has not changed and that I still give them all the attention they need. Can't wait for nicer days, so they can go outside and there won't be any snow.
I should soon be able to go back to my own bed. ahhhhhhhhh.
So few breeders in France? envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 03/03/2010 @ 09:16
Don't wonder why...this is something that has been going on for years and years. "They" don't want any.French people can read French ( most of them) and when they see what is going on in the wings, they stay away or give up if they have tried, hence all the continuous fighting.
Even judges, who are interested in the breed are given the shaft. There are new judges out there who would like to judge the breed. They are not allowed either...judging is for buddies, that's called "copinage".( copain, buddy)
That's why we have so many shows with the same judges.Thank the Barbet gawd there are a few good ones, still, out there.
From the UK: a vulgar caniche... envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 02/03/2010 @ 07:14
Historical context: In 1907. The Barbet, being a "vulgar" farm dog with a standard that had been written for him 15 years previous to that time ( 1891( ok, 16 so no one says I can't count), the poodle having been selected for 50?70? years to become a finer more sophisticated dog and was long gone into the powder puff salons of the ladies in paris and elsewhere.Sophisticated also means a finer body. You can't put a fat mama into a tutu.Think about it.
This dog, would of course not fit with that "style". ..;le style, c'est la femme? Brilliant info from the UK. The other country of the Rough water dog.
Keep in mind that the Barbet was in the shepherd group( 1000 years ago), sevral veterinary theses have been written on that and then fathered the Griffons, which it has been since 1891! and contributed to the Briard and the Beauceron. So the similar look is quite obvious!
I smell a rat...bigtime. I can prouve it, too. envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 01/03/2010 @ 20:49
On January 10th, I wrote a letter to the President of the SCC asking him about how a standard could be modified...Meaning the Barbet, since we have to wait 5 years in between changes.Last time being the blunder of 2005.
On February 4th, the kind gentleman wrote back to me saying that he would transmit my request to the club who would not fail to answer me...
Well I am still waiting for our dear club to answer. The president is too busy correcting spelling mistakes on the one website.( not mine)
Why I smell a rat...insider trading style? On one website of someone who hates everything that is not bushy frizzy, one can read her personal opinion on what she personally likes or dislikes ( who asked her?) and on her protégé's website* out of the clear blue sky you can read that it is time to change the standard and blablabla about non- confirmation points that "they" are going to put into effect in 2011.I guess someone must have died and left them in charge. Them youngings, one litter and they know it all. pfffft.Wet behind the ears and being parrots for the 3rd age groupies.
I may not know much about the somber world that surrounds this activity but I do know enough to say that this time it will not go the way it did in 2005.
A standard modification must be voted, not arbitrarily decided by one person and her sidekick to suit her/their whims of making sure the Barbet remains a re-incarnated poodle or vice versa? That is the reason why everyone who is a breeder and wanting to save the Barbet from extinction must be a member of the club. You, we, I may not be Barbet whisperer's like the person in charge of the Barbet at the club who has problems answering questions so needs help from his cohorts; BUT we will have something to say when the day cometh.
