It seems to now be a well-known fact that there is some Spanish water dog in a particular line of Barbets and that some of the dogs look exactly
like their grand-mother, a SWD*.http://chiensdeau.free.fr/BarbetenBresse/articles2.php?pg=art91
Compay II on the right has SWD blood in him ( brought by Ungaro de la Perte aux Loups)....However, below left you have a dog without SWD in him who is a magnificent specimen of a Barbet with Barbet blood and not a drop of poodle, or SWD. The coat of a Swd is different, coarser, and it is a much shorter, rounder of a dog.
When I am asked: " What is the "Barbet français"
supposed to look like?
I'd say look to the ancestors....the "old bloodlines
", after all this guy ( Akvavit) is in more than half of the Swiss studs on the market. Look at the curls, no frizz. You have seen them in Poppenspalers' Tokay ( in the grooming section, under working dog cut) http://www.pawpeds.com/db/?a=p&id=783572&g=4&p=bar&date=iso&o=ajgrep
You can after understand why M Georgii redipped with a SWD. And one for the road...as a pup. The "A" Poppenspalers' were born at Mrs Pêtre's, by the way. That is how Barbet blood got into Switzerland.
