From Ula and Chris' in Ontario, Canada, 3 can easily identify them. Now that makes for a nice selection, doesn't it!

Ula and Chris are also working their dogs on hunting which will be a big plus. I have some info to post from them about that...when I get a chance.

Ok, I want names... envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 31/10/2009 @ 14:43
Who stole the standard, again? Some one is spreading rumors that some dogs may be out of standard. that is not possible.
See below.
Cyber Opus un en O majeur/ 2nd best male at the French Club show in 2007. Listed as available stud in the Swiss database ( a reference of something since all the oodle breeders refer to it?)

Alias de l'Ile Romande, sent from Switzerland to attend the Club show in August 2009: placed 3rd excellent. No beard, short coat.

What the club believes as most representative of the breed? OK. If they wish.

Then...if black and gray tipped dogs are that great, why are brown and beige less great? Can someone explain?
Both these guys (Alias and Cyber) have PWD in their pedigree. So, throw backs from a PWD? The Barbet is not the only one to have throwbacks. It happens in all breeds when do do some mixing. But other breeds sort it out together.

A cao da serra de Aires who is closely related to the PWD? Does anyone hassel him? Did anyone hassel him when he was born years ago in a litter of PWD's?

Conclusion: if a dog is brown and beige and has Barbet blood in it and is getting hasseled, then can someone explain why these 2 guys aren't out of standard? Not possible!

Which is better or worse, or does it make a difference? envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 30/10/2009 @ 11:13
And in the end...who cares? As long as the Barbet looks like a Barbet and not a Poodle, a Curly, a Lagotto, a PWD or a SWD. Right?( Dixit the ad the French club put in a general public/ kids' magazine where they talk about rabbits, snakes, cats).
At least there, you can see that they are different breeds.
It's a start.

And of course some Barbets could possibly come from a redipping with a Pwd..who knows.DNA didn't exist at the time.
S'Gandar does descend from a PWD crossing with a Barbet. Not many have documented proof, now do they?
Other than emptying other websites' trash cans and re-using the info. Perhaps the breeders from the 90's will come forth with proof? So far, no good. Unfortunately.

In the 50's, the Ayme brothers did bring back a PWD from Portugal that looked like a Barbet, according to one of them.... Perhaps more than some Barbets look like Barbets today.
But we'll never know that other than the photos we have.

And that doesn't mean I'm shaving Compay's rear, now does it?

More beauties: it raises another question... envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 30/10/2009 @ 09:33

Boreaili Choco pop, cousin of Booly Wooly.
Hiw coat seems to be about 15 cms long. Notice how his eyes are trimmed slightly shorter so he can see.He is quite tall, and has sired several times. He is a beautiful specimen. Do you think he was selected for his skeleton? I doubt it.

This is Vega ( Ramses and P'Diane, an TI).He was never confirmed but was born 22/11/84. He has a beautiful coat with nice open curls as they should be. NOT short frizz poodle stuff. You can see he eyes and he has a beard.Look at his nice strong body, short muzzle nice big nose look at the thighs on him. AND another important detail: his hair grows down, not straight out.You can feel the texture, can't you?

Keep in mind again, that the Barbet was and is a Griffon and when the poodle thick shrubbed coat was substituted to the Griffon coat, some forgot to adjust to the standard. A Barbet with a long wooly coat is one thing, but a full thick shrub in front of his eyes is purely cruelty to animals....

Then, many Barbets are never confirmed in France. It would be interesting to pull out the production of the French breeders over the last 20 + years and see how many were confirmed. I for one, have difficulty in asking people to do it even if they are my production. I don't really believe in the whole process and dogs shows are just not my cup of tea.
BUT, we have to do some. So we do them.
For all the reasons we have to. A bit of a necessary evil?

At the bottom of p.23. I'll be happier than a pig in mud to send you the copy of the page. Just whistle.

Also in the next column it mentions the Parti-Poodles and their problem with the poodle club of France who is working to have the French standard respected.( dixit the conversation I had en Avignon about how the poodle club had worked over 100 years to get various color combinations OUT of the Poodle, as they were Barbet colors.)
