1. Griffon Boulet: One of 3 breeds that were built on the same "frame"( think about the Peugeot partner, the Citroen Berlingo and the Renault Kangoo, all the same family, but with details that make them different!). The Griffon Korthals, The Griffon Barbet, and the Boulet. The Boulet is all but extinct because the SCC never bothered to do anything about this particular French breed, and as M Hermans said in one of his Club bulletins: " the SCC let the Boulet rot." basically that's what they're doing now to the Barbet along with the club. It's not a money making breed, you see and money talks.
Good idea to join the club, to be able to vote...that's the only time they sollicit you and your vote will count even if you're not French. Some are already on the camapaign trail. We'll have a good laugh when we look at the rosewater promises and what really happened. But that's now for now.
2. The Swiss club: I don't promote it at all and never will as there has been too much discrimination on Barbets with Barbet blood. Their objective are too narrow for a rare breed. 3. BCE: something a Barbet should be able to do. Water retrieving trials. The Barbet is a hunter even if not many or very few do.
What is a Barbet? Another thesis from 2006. envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 30/08/2009 @ 15:42
Yes, I have been asked what the difference was between a Barbet, a SWD, a PWD, a Lagotto and I would add, a poodle. From bringing in just about anything into the showring and comparing them as if the were the same dogs, we have managed to bring total chaos to the breed. Some breeders obviously have no clue what a Barbet is and...some dingleberries will tell you it's the coat that makes the difference. Right.

..il en résulte la destruction d'une race assistée par un club qui ne sait pas non plus? On va où? Au secours.

The Chien de Crau is not a Griffon, it is a shepherd. As many of you may have read the thesis where dogs came westward with the herds of sheep migrating from Russia, and Tibet. Many Dogs were shepherds first( there is Barbet in the Briard, you can see it in the coat of some Briards),they had a reason for being multitask before people speacialized them, then it gave to the Griffons where it stayed.(the poodle issued from the Barbet having become a more sophisticated dog) This is a simple view on the subject. We're talking hundreds and hundreds of years. All the breeds were mixing here and there...but that is not my reason for being and I am not a dog historian, I am only using the official information I have about the Barbet which was a Griffon when its standard was written in 1891. Some others have retraced poodle history and at some point a long time ago every dog was related.
The Barbet is a Griffon that was put into the 8th group because it was better with the water dogs as it excels in water and also many said it didn't point well. We'll never be able to prouve that because because it's too late.Too much damage has been done by incompetent people. However: That doesn't make it less of a Griffon. These are historical facts, not scientific fiction.
What I see as real science fiction and unbelievable, is judging a Spanish Water dog type Barbet on a Barbet standard. That is much worse.
