Awards of Joyeuse du Mas de la Chapelle, a Barbet d'arrêt Français
A Griffon Barbet that we can no longer call Barbet d'arrêt* français so that we are just left with the Barbet français
that M Le Houelleur, Floirac bloodline, in the 20's
Dr Vincenti Mas de la Chapelle bloodline in the 30's
Mrs Pêtre, his daughter, from 1970 onwards and with the Barbochos de reiau de prouvenco kennel name, along with M Ayme, M Séguéla( de Vernelle kennel name) spent 20 + years trying to save from extinction.
We are left with their heritage of a dog with a long history( that started with it being a poodle) that we must treat with respect and try to keep alive. NOT in any ol'way but making sure the standard is respected along with its main points that include the morphology and making sure we add barbet blood back into it.
These are the bloodlines that M Georgii tried to carry on by adding from different water dog breeds to continue the barbet Français
, not create another breed. Had he had more people working with him
, as opposed to against him
in the 90's?....There was no one on his side at that time...Any dogs "created" needed to have Barbet blood put into the F2's and F3's which many didn't do and arbitrarily put poodle back on them.
No one, but the 3 of them ever worked together and all of the other breeders from the 90's were totally
The text below was written in 2003 by Mrs Loiseau, the French version follows.
Page 2 of 2.( yes, there is a page one, but it's the same story as on the Seguéla Barbet website,(from the homepage, on the left, under "origines récentes") the text highlighted in yellow):..There is of course this German breeder who is creating all the controversy, but rightly so, the “creator of the Barbet” does not want his Barbet-poodle image dulled by “Griffon Barbets”.
The war won’t be able to last for centuries because the Barbet will be extinct on one side and on the other and that’s the reason why we are fighting in our own way to have recognition that the Barbet left for us by the breeders of the 19th century was not a poodle and certainly not a modern poodle, but a medium sized dog, with a wavy coat that was sometimes curly, that he had not disappeared and that we must absolutely use him( the Griffon Barbet) with the Hermans Barbet-poodle for the breed to survive.**
Don’t be mistaken that if Hermans modified the standard that existed since 1897, twice: in 1986 and 1999 it is not only because the Barbet had evolved as all others breeds have, but ONLY so that the dogs produced by this German breeder could not ever be confirmed in France and therefore not allowed to be mated with dogs he dare qualify as “ Selection Hermans Barbets”. As you have read it here, this is the truth, nothing but the truth; Hermans only has to his honor, having bought a dog called Ulyssia from Mrs Bisconte and the mating of this dog with a black Grand caniche.
After that the breeders had to work everything out alone...
The worst this person has done will not have had negative consequences on the breed because the Barbetcaniche he produced mated with Georgii’s GRIFFON Barbet has taken place in several countries in Europe and in the USA and Canada where I think they will carry on.**
No, the worse damage is in our heads and in our hearts because I feel ire and disdain for a breeder who is under his charm, standing firmy behind his opinion, and which will lead him straight into the wall and that this breeder also hates me.
The Barbet does not come out of this affair in a better position...
I believe that this email is going to go straight to this particular breeder and the war will go on.
But that’s too bad, because I said what I had to say.
We’ll see in the long run, what happens...
