Thank our stars for DNA envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 22/05/2009 @ 07:48
The French SCC is going to be cooperating with Antagene a French company to do the DNA of our LOF dogs. I think this is an excellent measure and would encourage everyone to do it. It will be added to the official SCC pedigree.
As many of you know in France, dogs have to be confirmed before they get their official pedigree. Confirmation means going to a dog show and letting a judge look at, and touch your dog to make sure he corresponds to the standard. Then, you send in the temporary pedigree and pay the SCC to get the official pedigree. If you also have the hipscore done (authorized at 12 months in France)and send that in at the same time, it will also appear on the pedigree.
That will make it a complete real document and give you the proof that your dog has whatever blood in it that can be traced back along with other information on the parents, of couse.
You must know that if there is only poodle blood in a "pseudo-Barbet", it will show up, too.
You have to have it done by a vet. You need to contact Antagène in Dardilly, France or whomever you have in your country to do it.
In France, Antagene sends you a kit that you take to your vet. He takes the little brush out of the plastic container and rubs it in the dog's mouth. He then sends it to Antagène and you will get the DNA card in the mail. On that card, you will have the info (sequencing) that links your dog to his family. Voilà.
I can accept that some have different ideas than mine. I can accept that things don't always happen the way we want. I can understand that the way I see the future and the past is not the way that others see it.That's ok. (I was once told by a very dear friend of mine, that even if his wife had caught him in bed with another woman, he would still deny that fact...and I think of that statement regularly... )
But, when a group of people in a country which I shall not name, but most of you know who I am designating, claim to respect an FCI standard and make dogs according to standard, then I say that some ought to reread that standard and stop this piece by piece destruction of a breed of dogs that never asked for anything else than to be happy and make their owners happy.
Several are working to merge the lines ( Barbets and ones with only poodle blood)and do their best to select the dogs for reproduction to continue the Barbet according to the standard. However when a Barbet with Barbet blood (even if it has something else in it like all breeds)is not allowed to pass on his genetic heritage.
Then I say, stop this cagade.( from the latin "cagare")
There are some dogs that haven't got a drop of Barbet blood in them. These dogs are giving the Barbet a bad reputation for many reasons. This has got to end.

As some of you may know, there are some of us working for the survival of the "old bloodlines" which is a concept some others have difficulties in accepting. That's fine. I can accept that. But, when a particular unit of people claim to to respect the standard FCI for an endangered breed threatened with extinction and tries to exterminate any Barbet blood they can get their hands on, that slightly gets me angry. I am terribly sorry and apologize for any inconvenience this will cause you, my friends who come to this site for news. I have lots of photos to post of our dogs, my dogs and will be getting back to that rapidly.
In this era of immediate communication, everyone can find out about everything instantly. Had this been the case 25 years ago...
Please bear with me til I get to the bottom of the bowl and dump those pits.
