May 2009 be the year of the Barbet français? He needs it. envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 31/12/2008 @ 09:39
A fond thought for Rasta on this last day of the year, who was found and confirmed as a fabulous specimen of Barbet français, ATI. When I found out about him, I jumped in my car. He did not make it to sire, as he was hit by a car. He had it all.

May 2009 be the year of the Barbet? Time is ticking. I know the Barbet will outlive us, that has been proven....but that's not the point.

Honor to Ketty: the Griffon Boulet envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 31/12/2008 @ 09:31

She is 18. She was found. Compare with Bounty in the photo below. She looks like a Boulet, had we known about her before...What a shame. She is a beautiful dog. Happy New year, Ketty and mom.

Yes, you can still find here and there, some rare species...

Griffons: Boulet, Barbet history for the Anglo-Saxons and the Dutch! envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 31/12/2008 @ 08:29
As many of you know, I am and have been working on the history of the Barbet français. It can only be done in France...
Many have received the photos of the 3 bloodlines.
A picutre being a 1000 words, it is easier to look at them and see for yourself. No indoctrination of words. Facts.

This link was found for me as I am sorry, I cannot translate everything that is happening as far as the (real) history of the Barbet into English. I need to finish it in French, first.

The information on these sites is similar to some of the information I have found in French. That is important as the same information is being given. If you don't understand you can look at the photos!
Some people are absolutely not interested in its history and that is one of the problems that we have today, not only in France but in several countries, now, since the Barbet is gaining popularity.

Don't ask me which one, ask them. Why it is gaining popularity? One reason could be because it is a rare breed, so for that reason alone...
BUT,that is not a good reason to have a Barbet. It happens.Of course.

This should give you an idea of what is going on with the history of the Barbet and how the poodle and the Barbet are not the same breeds.
The poodle was selected out of the Barbet to not look like a Barbet, nor be groomed like it.
The information I have about the Barbet rarely mentions poodles, as a matter of fact, as it is a different breed. It generally speaks of Griffons.

That is the reason why there are 2 standards.

When you are looking at pedigrees, go all the way. Don't stop on one piece of paper...The information is there available to you now, by people who make it available to you, on databases.

In a breed,in all breeds we talk about bloodlines.
So, it should not come as a surprise that if 2 mutts are mated, their product is: more mutts.
If you add a pseudo poodle onto it, it is still a mutt, poodle typed.
If you put a poodle (a real one as is the case in some "Barbets") it is still a poodle, but renamed. It still has poodle blood.

They didn't take the dog and give him a blood transfusion.

Their characteristics (phenotype and genotype)are you you decide to acquire a particular type of dog against another.

The clubs and the breeders are responsible for anything that happens in good or bad to a breed, to the breed they are responsible for.

If the breeders deviate from what the dog is supposed to look like, eventually (qui est un faux ami avec éventuellement) they make a completely different dog.

That is what happened in the 80's with the Barbet.
Many jumped on the bandwagon as even today!

The Barbet français still exists, but as I have said in French on the history website, many, percentagewise, not all, have Barbet blood in them. Some have not a drop.
The picture below speaks it all. I don't think I need to tell you who is who.

The one on the left has no poodle blood, but comes from a Griffon Boulet line. The other is poodle typed, but with some Barbet blood, and his descendants should produce both. He comes from a female who is Berger de la Crau typed. Complicated, yes, a bit, but fascinating.

Navigate on a few websites( clubs and private), look at the photos. See for yourself. Also, you will notice, that on some there is absolutely no link to a Barbet history website, whichever it may be.
All breeds have links to their history websites.
Thank Internet for the rest.

It is strictly forbidden to copy or use any of the photos of the le Houelleur dogs on this post without the written authorisation of the webmaster and the Le Houelleur family.
