Son of Ulysse, Canadian Champion! envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 20/02/2011 @ 10:00
Disque d'or ( Nelum Himalis Braise x Ulysse di Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco)Could it be because of Amelia's smile? Or Disco's head? That head comes from Ulysse.
Addendum: I have heard again that judges were happy to see dogs "not overgroomed" and shown as they should be = naturally. That contrasts with what I read on a website and have seen on others, that if a dog in North America was not shown in an "overgroomed" state, it would not get anywhere in the show ring. hum. That is a fallacy.
The Barbet is a RUSTIC breed and not a Bichon! It does not require grooming, only brushing to keep it "natural looking".

My history of the Barbet needed to be done by last week for "some" to read it. It is a factual history and it makes sense. It is being translated by my friends to make it accessible to all. It had to be done in French, first,............ because the Barbet is a French dog, and has been very very mistreated in the last 30 years and it is not getting any better, and there was an urgency to get the truth out, not my truth.
I was right (ouf) in saying that eliminating colors in the Barbet was eliminating "old blood" and that in such a rare breed ( which was repeated I don't know how many times yesterday in the diffrent rigs where the Barbet was shown to the public!!)it was an asset to have colors to demonstrate how the Barbet contributed and was "used" by so many other breeds. After all, it's easy and nice to say how "old" the Barbet is, but it has to make sense and connect.
History is not just a question of dust/ l'histoire, ce n'est pas que de la poussière...
A Barbet has never been a "just black" dog. That is a major fallacy.
On the other hand, the Epagneul Français, also an old breed that I have come across a lot in my research, can only be white and brown, never never white and black as that would show that there is other "blood" in the dog. I guess it would be like the "quatre-oeil" in the Korthals.... Yes.

Frankly Scarlet de la serve de la Chapelle d'Alexandre ( Coccolina/ Ermengarda x Booly Wooly de la serve de la chapelle d'Alexandre)
Our Frankly Scarlet became a New Canadian Champion today at the Ontario Breeders Association . She won Best of Opposite giving her another 3 point win and her final point for her championship.
When talking to the judge she said she liked Frankie's coat and that it was "au natural". She explained she enjoyed seeing the dog in its rustic state and that it hasn't become overgroomed like some of the other breeds. She could tell we were firm believers in this because Frankie still had her sun bleached tips and we did not dye her hair to remove them.*
* Did not know that was even possible...but then?
Salon de l'Agriculture 2011: jugements comparés envoyé par Elaine Fichter le 19/02/2011 @ 22:10
Today, day 1/3 of the Barbet showing in Paris, was real interesting. In the picture, you will see from l to r: Compay II, an Epagneul Pont Audemer ( another rare breed, a real water spaniel)and the Epagneul Français, also an old breed ( 500 births per year). in the back, the Bulldog, a breed completely refabricated from scratch.
This event was sponsored by PRONATURA FRANCE and revealed very instructive. It was presented by the famous Pr. Denis, the color expert.
Learned lots of interesting things. great trip, tiring but oh so worthwhile.
