It has been established that the Barbet (line1)has Bouvier in it.
It is admitted by few that the color that some Barbet have had or still do, comes from the shepherd.
It is written ( Royal Canin Encyclopedia) that in the Bouvier there could be Barbet...
I personally have been told by competent judges that there is Bouvier in Compay II.
I think it's worth investigating. The wide head, wide chest certainly doesn't come from the poodle. Nor do the eyes. Some of the colors not accepted in the PWD show up in the Barbet and are..
For long, the Spanish water dog colors were suspected.
If you are interested..check out some official Bouvier de Flandres club sites in different countries...they have some very interesting photos that they are proud of(Danish/ Swiss for example).
The Bouvier de Flandres has become a very homogenous breed. However from time to time, the past pops in.
..........If it can for others, why can't it for us? That's added proof that there were Barbets after WWII and that our breed was not any more extinct than any other.
I have been told that the Bouvier people used a Barbet to add new blood after WWII. Now, unfortunately, they are becoming more discreet about it.
Makes it difficult to get real info, these days. I can understand.
If anyone knows anything that could help that aspect of Barbet history, please let me know. I will get there anyway but help is always appreciated.
